The cost of sponsorship on the Wood Fired Oven Podcast is in line with industry standard pricing.
Sponsorship advertising placements.
Sponsors essentially pay per 1000 downloads (listens) of their podcast sponsorship audio advertisement. This is industry standard for podcasts. Depending on the popularity of an episode and the podcast in general, this may take 1 week or 3-4 months. It varies a lot. For example, during a popular interview on the show during 2021, a sponsors advertisement was downloaded (listened) about 4000 times in about two weeks!
Sponsorship audio spots are applied usually to pre-roll (before episodes begin on ALL back catalogue and future episodes) and post-roll if preferred (after episodes finish on ALL back catalogue and future episodes). More info below on how it works.
1. Pre Roll: (15-60 seconds duration before the podcast begins)
2. Post Roll: (15-60 seconds duration after the podcast ends)
Types of advertising
Sponsorship - Non exclusive
One or two slots available per episode (all back catalogue and future episodes during placement duration). Approx 45-60 seconds duration in total.
Pre-roll (and *Post-roll if preferred) placement.
Cost: CPM**: $AUD50.00+GST.
Currently, sponsorship slots are applied to all back catalogue episodes and future episodes for the duration of the placement.
More than one company may sponsor the podcast, however, only one company per category is permitted. Eg: if you are a Wood Fired Oven manufacturer, then no other manufacturer may sponsor (or advertise) their Wood Fired Ovens.
Sponsorship Advertisement audio refresh available on request every 1000 downloads.
* Post-roll: A sponsor may elect to have their audio advertising played not only in the pre-roll, but also in the post roll. This increases how many times the advertisement is heard and goes towards the total ad downloads. You will reach the 1000 downloads much quicker if you utilise both spots.
**CPM: Cost per mille (1000). A fee is charged in advance for each 1000 ad downloads. When the agreed download amount has been reached, the sponsorship or advertising can roll over or stops. For example, this might take 1 week or 3 months.
What is a download?
Downloads are not the same as listens. A download represents how many times the ad has been downloaded to a device. Actual listens are usually much more than the download figure as listeners often listen to an episode/Ad more that one.
Are the advertising slots exclusive?
No. All Sponsorship advertising is non-exclusive. This means two different companies can advertise on the podcast.
Do you have lots of sponsorship slots available?
No. Sponsorship and advertising slots are usually booked up for 6 months or more. Please book early.
Can I barter for an advertising or sponsorship slot with products?
Do you track the number of times my Sponsorship ads are downloaded (listened)?
Yes! Our podcast host provides really good analytics. It looks like this:
We invoice at the start of each 1000 downloads. We can provide a screenshot similar to this one above.
How often do new podcast episodes get published?
Usually every two weeks during an active season, but I do not guarantee this due to my work commitments. This is a labour of love for me!
Even without new episodes, folks still listen to back catalogue episodes every week - see stats above, so your sponsorship placements still get listened to and downloaded even without new episodes getting published.
What type of sponsorship durations are available?
1. Total Downloads. Eg 6000+ downloads (minimum).
2. Per Season. Season 2 is likely to run one episode per fortnight for about 40+ weeks (around 20 episodes are planned). You will continue to be invoiced every 1000 downloads until the Season has finished. This is recommended for more established companies and for those wishing to secure a sponsorship spot for an entire season.
Who creates the audio sponsorship advertisement?
Me! No charge. We can discuss the theme of your ad before I hit record. You can also appear in the ad as well if you wish. I try to make these fun and as little like a typical 'Ad' as possible. These work best and don't turn off listeners.
Should I offer a discount code (or similar) exclusively to your listeners?
Yes, absolutely. This will be mentioned in the ad. This has worked well in the past - and also allows you to track how well the sponsorship ads are working for you. Use this in conjunction with the total downloads over time and you will get a good sense of the sponsorship penetration into the Wood Fired Oven market globally.
Do I get a unique private Sponsorship Portal page on your site?
Yes! I provide a password protected page for you. I post up stats and audio ads for your review before they are published.
Can I join your Wood Fired Oven Chronicles Facebook group and mention our products?
Yes! Only sponsors are permitted to discuss their products in our FB group. Lots of podcast listeners are active in our group. It's actually quite a wholesome, supportive and fun group.
Do I get any editorial control of the podcast.
Definitely not. The podcast is entirely independent of any editorial control from my sponsors. Sponsors accept that episodes may get published that discuss products and services that compete with them.
